St. Antonius Hospital in Gronau was also represented at an internationally renowned specialist congress for robot-assisted urological surgery in Beijing: Dr. Christian Wagner, Chief Physician at the Clinic for Urology, was invited as one of over 70 renowned experts from Asia and Europe to present the latest developments in robot-assisted prostate removal as part of an international panel.
His live presentation via video conference from Gronau focused on a previously recorded radical prostatectomy using the da Vinci surgical system – a surgical technique for which the Gronau urology team is renowned both nationally and internationally. The demonstrated combination of robot-assisted precision, intraoperative frozen section diagnostics, and the use of a suprapubic catheter (via the abdominal wall) attracted the attention of the specialist audience.
The technique used at the Prostata Centrum Gronau, which is characterized above all by its focus on the patient, their safety, and their well-being, was highlighted as groundbreaking by numerous international colleagues. The Gronau surgical procedure preserves the patient's nerves and continence, allowing them to recover quickly after the procedure.
“It is a special honor to be able to present our medical work and surgical experience to such a high-caliber professional audience in Asia,” said Dr. Christian Wagner. “The combination of state-of-the-art robot technology, structured surgical procedures, and experience-based surgical strategy in particular aroused great interest in Beijing.”
The invitation to the “Global Health Summit – Great Wall Urology Forum 2025” in Beijing underscores the international reputation of Gronau Urology, which is one of the world's leading centers with over 1,800 robot-assisted procedures performed annually.
